Teachers give us so much. A boost of confidence when we really need one. Extra help when we’re having trouble. A welcoming presence when everything else seems out of control. And though we know we can’t ever thank them enough, we can take a moment during National Teacher Appreciation Week to share our appreciation for the special educators in our lives.
This year the Italian Teacher Appreciation Week will be celebrated from 2nd to 8th May. Major celebrations are planned all over the nation and worldwide and will take place in schools and on social media with the hashtag #RingraziaUnDocente, #ThankaTeacher in close collaboration with the site dedicated to education Edu your Action. The promoters would like to address to the Italian teaching staff a range of care and benefits such as Museums, Theaters, Cinemas, Libraries, but also shops and other technologies with a special discount to all teachers in the days that go from Monday 2 to Sunday, May 8th.
MasterProf is a project inspired by the Global Teacher Prize (also known as the Nobel Prize for Teaching) and aims to re-value the “teaching profession”, restoring the dignity and importance it deserves. The path chosen is to identify and bring to light all the stories of extra-ordinary teachers in Italy. Teachers who innovate, who bring change, demonstrating courage and initiative in carrying out the most beautiful and important profession in the world. The work involves collecting the reports of teachers of all levels, in every region of Italy, who are true champions in class. The desired characteristics include, among others, innovative methods and practices, professional merit, contributions to opening minds, educating global citizens, making teaching available to everyone, involving the territory. Unlike the Global Teacher Prize, MasterProf is not a competition, there are no finalists, and there are no winners. It’s a collection of extraordinary stories of ordinary people.
