Upcoming Period Drama Films

Here is a list of the period dramas / historical dramas / costume dramas premiering in 2015 and 2016 which are not to be missed!!!

Suffragette
This film focuses on the early members of the British suffragette movement in the late 19th and early 20th century. Stars Helen Bonham Carter, Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep, Romola Garai, Ben Whishaw (Perfume, The Hour, etc.), Anne-Marie Duff (The Virgin Queen, etc.), and Samuel West (Mr Selfridge, etc.).

A Royal Night Out
This is a fictional account about the then-Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret having a night out to celebrate the end of WWII.

Madame Bovary
Set in Normandy, France, the classic story of Emma Bovary, a young beauty who impulsively marries small-town doctor, Charles Bovary but after being introduced to the glamorous world of high society, she soon becomes bored with her husband and mundane life, and seeks prestige and excitement outside the bonds of marriage.

Mr. Holmes
Based on the novel, ‘A Slight Trick of the Mind’ by Mitch Cullin, on the aged Sherlock Holmes (played by Ian McKellen) solving one last mystery in 1947.

Macbeth
An adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth starring Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, Jane Eyre, 12 Years a Slave, etc.) as Macbeth, Marion Cotillard (Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose) as Lady Macbeth, Sean Harris (Micheletto in The Borgias) as Macduff, and Elizabeth Debicki (Jordan in The Great Gatsby) as Lady Macduff.
